State of Africatown 2026

  • Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute Seattle, WA (map)

From the organizer, Africatown Community Land Trust:

Over the past several decades, more than 70 percent of the Central District’s Black residents have been displaced. Neighborhood restoration without displacement requires more than awareness. It requires informed action.

A healthy, flourishing Seattle depends on a thriving Black community. State of Africatown 2026 is a civic gathering for people who care about shaping the future of the Central District to ensure Black families and businesses can stay, own, and succeed.

This convening will ground participants in the real history behind displacement and highlight the community-centered solutions already underway.

If your work, influence, or values touch housing, land, culture, or long-term stability in Seattle, this is a room you should be in.
