From the organizer, People’s Economy Lab:
As the U.S. job market crashes and the cost of living careens upward, working people are desperate for stability.
One ready answer to economic instability is worker ownership.
Employee-owned companies inspire worker loyalty, lay off fewer workers, and outperform other companies during economic downturns. Worker-owned co-ops also offer more leadership opportunities for people of color and women, and narrow the racial and gender wage gaps.
Despite the clear benefits, aspiring worker-owners face many barriers to starting co-ops in Washington State. and exploring how we can create a better environment for more employee-owned companies to get off the ground.
Join us on Zoom on October 2nd at noon for a Lunch Lab assessing the state of worker-owned co-ops in Washington State including Patrica Kwan, Director of the Washington Center for Employee Ownership and Mike Seo, organizer of the Seattle Co-operators Meet-up.
