This workshop examines the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence and its potential impact on society, with a focus on how it may affect equity and fairness. We'll begin by discussing the different types of AI, from machine learning to large language models such as GPT-4o, and the methods used to train them, including the collection of online data. We will collaboratively brainstorm and explore the issue of bias in AI, analyzing examples such as the COMPAS algorithm and AI hiring tools, and consider how these biases can lead to unequal outcomes for different groups of people. Finally, we will discuss potential solutions, including proposed legal frameworks like the EU AI Act and the US AI Bill of Rights, as well as ideas for community involvement in the development and use of AI. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the societal implications of AI and ways to promote more just and equitable AI systems.
This session is open to all and any interested in the topic.
