Description: Let’s discuss how tenants can organize and start / convert into housing co-op or other affordable ownership structures.
Speakers:
• Dominique Haft and Amanda Sahali, both from City of Seatle Office of Housing (OH), will talk about Homeownership as Preservation (HOP) program initiative. HOP is an emerging program, designed by Seattle’s Office of Housing Homeownership division, seeking to convert small multi-family rental buildings into affordable homeownership opportunities. It aims to meet initial proof of concept by 04/2026.
Amanda will also share how developers can utilize the OH development subsidies or Mandatory Housing Affordability performance option by creating permanently affordable units in their projects. She will also talk about services available to income qualified homeowners to support their continued stable occupation of their home. Amanda will also share their personal endeavor to start a housing co-op in Columbia city.
• Tenants’ group representatives will share their journey to buying out their rental building and converting it to ownership. They will share about organizing, recruiting, and capitalization.
