Meeting Seattle’s climate goals takes everyone. This is why Seattle’s Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) is excited to announce the 2026 application for the Environmental Justice (EJ) Fund is now open! Investments like the Environmental Justice Fund are part of Seattle’s strategy to support grassroots, community‑driven solutions that accelerate climate action.
The EJ Fund invests in projects led by or in partnership with Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), immigrants, refugees, youth, elders, and low-income residents. Priority will be given to projects that serve the following priority neighborhoods: Beacon Hill, Bitter Lake, Central Area, Chinatown-International District, Delridge, Georgetown, Haller Lake, Lake City, Mount Baker, Othello, Rainier Beach, and South Park.
Projects may occur over 22 months and must start February 2027 and end November 2028. There are two funding options available:
Option 1: offers grants ranging from $60,000 to $80,000
Option 2: offers grants ranging from $80,001 to $120,000
Tribes and tribal organizations, nonprofit organizations, and community and neighborhood groups are eligible for funding. Projects must be led by and directly benefit communities disproportionately affected by environmental issues and align with one of four funding priorities: 1) developing the leadership of communities impacted first and worst by climate change, 2) supporting community-led climate or environmental solutions, 3) trainings and exposure to climate careers and 4) building resilience to protect health and community wellbeing. Eligible project activities include:
Climate resilience and adaptation solutions
Community planning and visioning
Cultural knowledge preservation and/or education
Environmental or climate focused arts and storytelling
Environmental or climate education, outreach, and/or engagement
Climate career exposure programs
Organizational and community capacity building
