WHITE CENTER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION

The White Center Community Development Association (WCCDA) acts as a hub for interconnected coalitions and networks across community groups, public entities, local businesses, and other partners. They provide coordination and support to facilitate strong relationships among partner organizations who are meeting challenges exacerbated by lack of municipal infrastructure and resources.

COMMUNITY-oriented DATA

WCCDA uses a community--oriented data approach to inform their collaborative work and ensure they are supporting community-identified priorities. In 2017, they conducted a community survey of over 500 White Center residents who shared what strengths and challenges they see in their community.

food empowerment education and sustainability team

FEEST is a youth-led food justice organization that is creating space for White Center youth to learn about healthy eating, build community, and develop the leadership skills necessary to combat food injustice.

healthy food round table

FEEST is dedicated to developing youth leadership for health and food justice. They are developing a Healthy Round Table where young residents can explore how different communities live in relation to healthy food and healthy living. Youth leaders will extend their impact in South King County schools by working on policies to increase access and affordability of healthy and culturally-relevant foods.

youth dinners

FEEST hosts weekly youth-led dinners where youth ages 13-18 gather together to cook dinner from scratch using fresh local produce and halal meats. These dinners provide a space for creative risk-taking, community connection, and informative discussions around health inequities, food systems, and youth movements. Through this creative space, FEEST is building strong relationships needed to create and sustain change over time.

The vision of COO is possible when we are able to build relationships based on trust for the work of this community. We have partners that listen to what our community is saying and let that voice be the most critical part of their work here in White Center.
